Prairie Pride on Tap: Great Western Brewing Expands in Saskatoon
SREDA is thrilled to congratulate Saskatchewan-founded Great Western Brewing Company (GWBC) on the expansion of its brewhouse in downtown Saskatoon.
For more than three decades, GWBC has produced world-class beer enjoyed across Western Canada, securing their reputation as one of the country’s most successful regional breweries. Rooted firmly in the Prairies, the company remains 100% locally owned and brewed, and is one of Saskatchewan’s leading purchasers of locally grown malt barley – supporting farmers and strengthening the province’s agricultural economy.
“This first brew is a proud moment for our team and a reflection of our deep roots in Saskatchewan,” said Michael Brennan, President and CEO of Great Western Brewing Company. “By investing in modern brewing technology here in Saskatoon, we’re reinforcing our long-term commitment to local jobs, local agriculture, and brewing world-class beer for Western Canada.”
Supported by the City of Saskatoon’s Business Development Incentive, administered by SREDA, GWBC has invested $25M toward a new 17,500-square-foot brewing facility. The new facility features innovative brewing technology that reduces water and energy use, while also enhancing product quality and production capacity. This expansion project boasts one of the largest private-sector investments in the city’s industrial core in recent years and will create over 10 new permanent jobs, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to the Region.
“We’re thrilled to see a Saskatchewan success story like Great Western Brewing Company continue to grow right here in Saskatoon,” said Erin Lawson, CEO, SREDA. “This expansion strengthens our local economy, creates new jobs, and highlights the innovation and commitment that make our Region such a great place to do business.”
The first brew in the new state-of-the-art facility took place on March 9, and will hit shelves shortly thereafter. SREDA is honoured to support GWBC’s continued investment in the Saskatoon Region. Cheers to the resilience and prairie pride that make this community strong!
