SASKATOON – The Board of Directors of the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA) today announced the appointments of Alex L. Fallon as President and Chief Executive Officer and Jim George as Chief Operating Officer. Fallon will join SREDA as CEO on September 10, 2014. George will assume his new role after a year serving as the organization’s Vice President, Business Development and acting as interim President and CEO.
“We are thrilled to welcome Alex to our organization and delighted that Jim will continue with SREDA in his new and expanded role,” said Bruce Richet, Chair of SREDA. “Together, these executives bring a blend of fresh insight and leadership continuity, which will help our region reach its full economic potential.”
Fallon joins SREDA after serving as Vice President, Investment Attraction & Managing Director (Saskatchewan) for Rainmaker Global Business Development, a leading economic development consulting firm with offices across North America and Europe. Prior to this post, he served as Director of Investment Attraction for Saskatchewan’s Ministry of the Economy where he led a team responsible for attracting foreign direct investment to the province and leading economic development missions to Europe, Asia and India. He has also worked as Manager, Marketing (Canada) for Cameco Corporation. He is a member of the Economic Developers Association of Canada and holds a Bachelor of Business & Economics (Honours) and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) both from the UK. As President & CEO, Alex will lead SREDA to promote our
region’s economic growth.
As Chief Operating Officer, George will focus on SREDA’s operations and new opportunities to create value for members drawing on his past experience as business advisor and technology entrepreneur. Prior to joining SREDA, George, a professional engineer, served as Director of Competitive Intelligence for SpringBoard West Innovations Inc., helping technology-‐based companies secure investment, build capacity and bring their technologies to market.
Created in 1992, SREDA is one of the first independent economic development agencies in Canada. SREDA works with the City of Saskatoon, surrounding communities, strategic partners, and more than 200 private sector investors to build and grow the region’s economy.
