EDUCATION

Saskatoon’s education system is focused on growing the next generation of leaders

POST-SECONDARY

For those who wish to pursue their education beyond their high school diploma, Saskatoon is home to two publicly-funded post-secondary institutions, as well as a number of private career colleges.

University of Saskatchewan
One of Canada’s top research universities, which offers degrees and certificates in a variety of subject areas. It also offers distance education and correspondence courses in addition to those offered on campus.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic
This school’s expertise is on responsive applied education and research that meets student and market needs. There are certificate, degree and diploma programs.

KINDERGARTEN TO GRADE 12

All publicly-funded schools in Saskatchewan teach the same provincially-developed material and parents are able to choose where they enroll their children. This quality education is free for residents and is available to children aged three and up.

There are four publicly-funded school systems that serve the Saskatoon Region:

Saskatoon Public Schools
Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools
Conseil des écoles Fransaskoises – Francophone Schools
Prairie Spirit School Division

There are also a number of private schools in the Saskatoon Region, which charge tuition to students.

EARLY LEARNING

Licensed child care in Saskatchewan is regulated and monitored by the Early Years Branch of the Ministry of Education, whether the service is provided in a child care centre or a family child care home. Some early learning centres are also located within schools in the city.

Pre-kindergarten programming is offered in Saskatoon elementary schools where children may benefit from additional supports such as speech, language and social development programming. Preschool programming is also offered by individuals or private organizations.
