Manager, Business and Economics

Founded in 1992, the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority (SREDA) works with the City of Saskatoon, Regional Municipalities and 150 private sector investors to strengthen and grow the Saskatoon Region economy.

SREDA provides programs and services around six core areas to help grow the local economy: Business Attraction; Business Expansion; Entrepreneurship; Economic Forecasting and Analysis; Regional Economic Development and Planning; and Marketing the Saskatoon Region.

To support its economic intelligence pillar, SREDA is seeking a highly motivated individual to assume the role of Manager, Business and Economics under the direction of the Director, Business Development.

The Manager, Business and Economics will have responsibility for the following:

  • Daily review of local, national and international news to prepare the SREDA NEWSflash.
  • Research topical business issues (e.g. trade issues, taxes, key sectors, commodity markets, etc.).
  • Lead the preparation of SREDA’s Annual Economic Forecast and Quarterly Dashboards.
  • Develop SREDA Insights reports on topical business/economic issues.
  • Prepare and deliver multi-media material to communicate key economic trends for the Saskatoon Region.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of the SREDA Forum.
  • Develop material on economic trends and issues utilizing the resources of SREDA’s Marketing and Communications team.
  • Represent SREDA in the business community to develop a network of business professionals and companies that SREDA can assist with business growth issues.
  • Deliver presentations on business topics to local stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Business Development and/or CEO.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Economics or Commerce; preference may be given to applicants with a Finance Major.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the areas of research and economic analysis.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the issues affecting businesses and the local economy.
  • Strong understanding of key economic indicators.
  • Experience gathering and analyzing research material.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with business stakeholders, sponsors, and government officials.
  • Must have the ability to produce concise and accurate briefing material.

Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The salary range for this position is around $70,000. For an experienced candidate with significant business experience, this position may be increased to a Director role.
