Lifestyles – Education and Training – Aboriginal Programs
In Saskatchewan, the Aboriginal community represents the greatest untapped labour resource. Employers, Aboriginal leaders and government are working collaboratively to develop a better understanding of what is required to engage greater numbers of Aboriginals into the workforce. Public and private sector initiatives are in place or being developed to react to changing labour market and employer needs, and a strong network of support agencies and institutions exists to assist Aboriginal people in making successful, long-term transitions into the workplace. The Saskatoon and surrounding region labour market offers tremendous career opportunities for First Nations and Métis people.
Three of the province’s top institutions offer programming specially tailored to Aboriginal students:
- Dumont Technical Institute
- First Nations University of Canada
- Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies
