SREDA – Our Partners – Overview
Our Funding Partners
SREDA works with the City of Saskatoon, the Province of Saskatchewan, the surrounding rural communities and more than 200 private sector investors to build and grow the region’s economy. SREDA is primarily funded by Enterprise Saskatchewan, the City of Saskatoon, private sector investors, rural communities and rural municipalities.
Enterprise Saskatchewan
One of SREDA’s major funding partners is Enterprise Saskatchewan, a special agency of the Government of Saskatchewan. Enterprise Saskatchewan provides leadership as the central coordinating agency of the Government of Saskatchewan for economic development and works in partnership with Enterprise Regions such as SREDA and other key economic development stakeholders.
“Enterprise Saskatchewan’s job will be to identify, develop, and monitor competitive advantages and disadvantages in each sector and prescribe action. In short, its role is to continually push the competitive envelope.” —Premier Brad Wall
SREDA works with Enterprise Saskatchewan and its sector teams to reduce and remove barriers to growth, build on sector advantages and encourage business creation, attraction, retention, and growth.
Each Enterprise Region has its own strategy within the four strategic directions set forth by Enterprise Saskatchewan including:
- Building Regional Economies
- Fostering a Culture of Enterprise and Innovation
- Building on Competitive Advantages
- Engaging Leadership in and Effective Governance of Regional Economic Development

City of Saskatoon
One of SREDA’s other major funding partners is the City of Saskatoon. SREDA began as the Industrial Development Department in the 1960s and in September 1992, Saskatoon City Council passed Bylaw 7308 which created the Economic Development Authority of Saskatoon (EDA). The organization experienced considerable growth from 1992 to 1996 and following negotiations with Saskatoon City Council, the EDA Bylaw was rescinded on December 31, 1996 making way for a new corporation, the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority Inc., to take responsibility for the provision of economic development services in the Saskatoon Region commencing January 1, 1997.
Since that time, SREDA has continued to work closely with the City of Saskatoon to provide business development and economic development services. SREDA assists in administering business development incentives and works together with various city departments to help with planning initiatives, attracting new businesses and helping existing Saskatoon businesses to grow and expand.

Private Sector Investor (PSI) Program
Our non-profit organization relies on the generous contributions of the Saskatoon Region’s visionary business leaders who understand the importance of growing the economy for the good of all who live, work and invest here. Local business leaders have continued to support the growth of the Saskatoon Region by making a financial commitment to SREDA through our Private Sector Investor (PSI) Program.
Regional Member Funding
SREDA also receives generous contributions from municipal leaders who understand the importance of growing the economy and have made significant financial commitments for the good of all who live, work and invest here.
Each of SREDA’s regional member communities and rural municipalities has the opportunity to participate on the SREDA Rural Committee. The Rural Committee assists SREDA in determining its regional economic development goals and works collaboratively on business and economic development projects.
Business-Minded Partnerships
Another way that SREDA assists in fostering economic growth is through its working partnerships with other organizations. Through collaborative efforts, we work to assist in providing valuable tools to new and existing entrepreneurs through such partnerships outlined below.
