Lifestyles – Communities & Homes – Buying

Saskatoon is one of Canada’s most affordable cities, with homeowners’ costs among the fourth lowest among Canadian cities, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The average sale price for a residential property in June 2008 was $312,445. In addition, city homeowners pay only 20% of their pre-tax household income on housing while the national average is almost 32%.

In Saskatoon, most people live in a house, however many also own condominiums and apartments, and loft living is being developed in many downtown locations. Some citizens opt to purchase homes in neighbouring communities such as Warman, Martensville and Langham and commute into the city to work.

The Neighbourhood Profiles publication from the City of Saskatoon contains a wealth of demographic data for each residential neighbourhood in Saskatoon, such as how many people own houses, average income of residents, park space per resident, ethnic diversity, and political participation. Used by all types of people, from residents to business owners to community organizations, the data in Neighbourhood Profiles can help people plan for the future or just provide a snapshot of a neighbourhood.
