Lifestyles – Overview – Cost of Living – Intercity Comparisons

Saskatoon’s cost of living is considered very competitive when compared with other Canadian cities. The city’s housing prices are considered competitive and owning a home is affordable and achievable for most people. In November, the average selling price for a home in the Saskatoon area was $278,885.

A variety of food and basic shopping needs is accessible for reasonable prices. Commuting times throughout the city and region are short – the maximum commuting time across Saskatoon is 20 minutes. Not only that, but the health care is provincially funded and no health premiums are charged.

Household expenses, such as utility costs and the tax rate, are also competitive, ranking on average in the low to mid-range scale of major centres in Canada. The provincial sales tax is 5%, the lowest of any province charging a sales tax.
