Given the cluster of world-class organizations listed above, it is not surprising that this region played a major part in Protein Industries Canada (PIC) being named as 1 of 5 Innovation Super Cluster Initiatives to share in $950 million in Federal funding over the next 5 years. PIC’s focus is on developing more efficient plant-based proteins. The groups mandate will include crop breeding, agricultural crop production, processing of food and food ingredients along with the exporting of these proteins around the world.
